Carol Ross Noyes, retired school librarian, now full-time artist, has discovered that the landscapes, seascapes, and people of Scotland and England provide the source and passion for much of her latest artwork.
Carol's grandfather John Ross and family left Paisley, Scotland when transferred by his employer to Linlithgow, New York where he worked as a mine superintendent. Carol's father George R. Ross was the youngest of thirteen and born in the United States in 1896. He always wanted to visit Scotland, but worked full-time until the age of 76.
"I always wanted to travel in Scotland. I knew I couldn't fulfill my father's dreams, but I wanted to connect with my Scottish roots for myself." In 1984 Carol and her husband Peter visited Scotland. The trip was far too brief and they have returned twice since the 80's combining one of the trips with a visit to the ancestral home of Peter's family which is located in Hampshire. A fourth trip was dedicated to research into Peter's family in both Hampshire and Dorset areas of England.
"We have many friends in both Scotland and England and keep in touch with them on a regular basis. Seeing the country with them helps me discover many exciting painting venues that I might not find on my own. We plan to return every other year to study different areas in depth while gleaning many photo references for future paintings."
