Canadian National Flag The Canadian National Flag was adopted by the Canadian Parliament on October 22, 1964 and was proclaimed into law by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (the Queen of Canada) on February 15, 1965. The Canadian Flag (known as The Maple Leaf Flag) is a red flag containing in its centre a white square, with a single red stylized eleven-point maple leaf centred in the white square. The colours red and white used in the Canadian flag are the same as those colours used in the Union Flag (of the UK). Red and white are the national colours of Canada since 1921 (when they were proclaimed by King George V on the recommendation of the Canadian Governmant). A common myth about this flag concerns the number of points on the maple leaf. According to some the points represent the provinces and territories, others claim they represent the eleven governments (10 provincial plus federal). There is no truth to any of these stories and the number of points is no more than coincidence.

Canadian Royal Standard There are four quarters in the upper two thirds of the flag. These represent: England (three leopards red field); Scotland (red lion in gold field); Ireland (a gold harp in an azurre field); France royal (three fleurs-de-lis in an azurre field). On the bottom field, is Canada (represented by three maple leaves). In the center of the flag, there is the letter E in a wreath, representing Queen Elizabeth II. This flag is actually Queen Elizabeth II's personal standard in Canada.

Montreal City Flag The flag of the Town of Montreal was raised for the first time in May 1939. It takes the principal heraldic symbols of the armorial bearings: the heraldic cross of mouths on white zone and to the districts, four emblematic flowers. These Emblems in the flag represent (1) The flower of lily of the royal house of Bourbon. This emblem represents with the first canton of the French element which was the first to take took possession of Montreal. (2) The rose of the house of Lancaster. This one is placed with the second canton and it symbolizes the English settlers from England. (3)The thistle. This emblem represents, with the third canton, the Scottish origin of the population. (4) The clover of Ireland. To the fourth canton, the clover recalls the presence of the Irish origin of the population.
