British Royal Standard ~ Kings Colors
IsleOfMan ~ Guernsey ~ Edward III
Richard I ~ Red Ensign ~ White Ensign

Royal Standard of The United Kingdom
On the Royal Standard, there are four quarterings, two for England (three lions passant), one for Scotland (a lion rampant) and one for Ireland (a harp). Wales is not represented in the Royal Standard, as its special position as a Principality was recognised by the creation of the Prince of Wales long before the incorporation of the quarterings for Scotland and Ireland in the Royal Arms.
The Royal Standard is flown when The Queen is in residence in one of the Royal Palaces, on The Queen's car on official journeys and on aircraft (when on the ground). It may also be flown on any building, official or private (but not ecclesiastical buildings), during a visit by The Queen, if the owner or proprietor so requests.
The Royal Standard is never flown at half mast, as the Sovereign never dies (the new Monarch immediately succeeds his or her predecessor).

    British Union (King's Colors)
(1606 - 1801) When King James VI of Scotland ascended to the English throne, thereby becoming James I of England, the national flags of England (the red St George's cross) and Scotland (the white St Andrew's cross) continued as the National land flags. However, a flag was needed that would be appropriate at sea. So on 12 April 1606 King James issued a proclamation which joined the two flags into the official banner, the Union flag (better known as the Union Jack).
In 1707, the Union flag became the National Flag of Britain. This flag was Britian's national flag until 1801 when the red saltire of St. Patrick was added to the flag in recognition of Ireland as part of the United Kingdom.
The British Union Flag was the standard raised by the Jamestown settlers in 1607, and the flag brought to America with the Mayflower in 1620.

    Isle of Man
The national flag of Man is a plain red field with the "trinacria" emblem in the centre. The emblem dates back to the 13th century and is believed to be connected with Sicily, where a similar device was used in the Norman period. This connection with Sicily probably comes about through the Norse occupation of the Isle of Man from about 979 to 1265. The Three Legs emblem appeared on the 10th century coinage of the Norse King Analaf Cuaran who ruled both in Dublin and in Mann.
The design actually has a long history stretching back into pagan times and represents the sun and its daily passage across the heavens. It was derived from a design which showed the spokes of a wheel and which, in turn, represented the rays of the sun. Because of this it has been described as a solar wheel and was a symbol of pagan sun worship. The Three Legged device was commonly found among the Celts and Norsemen of north-western Europe.
The earliest dated use of the Three Legs within the Isle of Man is in 1310 when they appeared on the shield of Henry de Bello Monte, Governor of the Island for King Edward II of England. They also appear on the Manx Sword of State which is thought to date from around 1230.

    Bailiwick of Guernsey
The flag is white with a gold cross overlaying a St George Cross. The gold cross was taken from a flag of William the Conqueror, used at the battle of Hastings. The gold cross was added to the flag in 1985 to distinguish it from England's St George Cross flag.
